Employers and Apprentices celebrate success of Unlocking Apprenticeships programme

Employers and young people gathered recently to celebrate their achievement on the Unlocking Apprenticeships programme, with many local employers having employed new Apprentices following the six week programme.

Unlocking Apprenticeships, delivered by Truro and Penwith College, gives employers an opportunity to trial the Apprenticeships programme and find the perfect Apprentice alongside industry training and support.

Three quarters of the young people who completed this Unlocking Apprenticeships programme have already been offered paid Apprenticeship positions by their employers, with the remaining quarter currently in the interview process. Companies involved include Morgan’s Gym, Gloss Hair and Beauty, Budock Vean, Red Stars, Bouncers Nursery, Lang Bennetts Accountants and TLC Nails and Beauty.

Helen Hood from Lang Bennetts Accountants said “It is a great opportunity to try someone out before you employ them. Katy is great and we have offered her a job and an Apprenticeship.”

Little Stars Childcare said “We were delighted to be part of this programme – I would highly recommend it. We are thrilled with Sian and Megan and have offered them both a full time role with us.”

Sophie of Budock Vean Hotel added “It has worked out brilliantly for us”.

Sue Lovell, Manager at Truro and Penwith College Business said “We are absolutely delighted to have developed a great programme which works for both students and employers alike. These students have shown that there are some fantastic, motivated and enthusiastic young people, who are ready and willing to add real value to local businesses.”

The next Unlocking Apprenticeships programme at Truro and Penwith College runs in January 2014.
