Cornwall leading the way with Apprenticeships on Twitter

Cornwall Apprentice HourBusinesses in Cornwall are being invited to find out more about Apprenticeships by joining a weekly online chat.

#CornwallApprenticeHour is hosted on Twitter by the Cornwall Apprenticeship Campaign every Thursday evening from 19:30-20:30, seeking to showcase apprentice success stories, answer questions about Apprenticeships and increase awareness of the opportunities available throughout Cornwall.

“Twitter is a very active site in Cornwall,” explained Cornwall Apprenticeship’s Jason Sugden. “We’ve made hundreds of new contacts through the hugely successful #CornwallHour, which is held every Wednesday evening, but there was demand for a more focused conversation around Apprenticeships.”

The very first #CornwallApprenticeHour was held in November, generating scores of tweets, retweets and comments.

“We were delighted with the response,” said Perfect Balance Marketing’s Lucy Thornton, who leads the digital marketing for the Cornwall Apprenticeship Campaign. “As it was our first Twitter chat, we hadn’t expected too much as these things can take a while to grow, but we should have known we could count on Cornwall’s businesses! They were there from the start, with their Apprenticeship stories and shout outs for individual and organisations.”

As well as providing updates on the latest Apprenticeship vacancies, the weekly Twitter chat is also designed to engage with businesses by responding to their queries, sign-posting them to resources, and inspiring them to consider employing apprentices within their organisations.

“We are working closely with providers who deliver the Apprenticeship programmes across Cornwall,” continued Jason. “Truro, Penwith and Cornwall College are all available during #CornwallApprenticeHour to answer questions from potential apprentices and employers. We hope the weekly online buzz will help to challenge traditional misconceptions of Apprenticeships and increase applications and vacancies across the county.”

Any individuals or businesses can join in with #CornwallApprenticeHour online every Thursday from 19:30-20:30. You can search for the hashtag on Twitter and follow the conversation in real time, or follow @CIoSApprentice on for updates.
