Curnow Builders are a multi-skilled building and carpentry firm and like many construction companies take on a range of different work, so need a well skilled workforce that can provide a quality service for all jobs. The company had previously faced difficulty finding a College that could deliver an Apprenticeship programme that suited the “jack of all trades” training they needed for any new pprentices, with traditional programmes not offering everything they required.
After hearing about the recent multi-million pound investments in Construction facilities at Truro and Penwith College, Andrew Curnow contacted one of the College’s business development advisors to see what was available and found that a range of new training programmes had been launched, most importantly, programmes that suited his exact business needs.
“For our business to get the best out of Apprenticeships we needed flexibility, excellent local facilities and tailored construction courses; all things that Truro and Penwith College could offer us.”
“We recently introduced two apprentices to our business, one beginning the Craft Masonry Apprenticeship, the other starting on Maintenance Operations. Both have been invaluable so far and we look forward their future with us and our future with Apprenticeships.”
The Maintenance Operations Apprenticeship trains apprentices in a many areas such as repairing or renewing timber products, plumbing, wall and floor tiling, painting and decorating, bricklaying and plastering depending upon the routes taken in the qualification, hence it’s suitability for a busy local firm like Curnow Builders. Truro and Penwith College now deliver Apprenticeships in Bench Joinery, Bricklaying, Craft Masonry, Maintenance Operations, Painting and Decorating, Plastering and Site Carpentry.
