Originally opened in 1975, The Seafood Restaurant is owned by Rick Stein and Jill Stein and currently employs over 300 members of staff. In 2008 Rick made the decision to start an apprenticeship scheme to support talented chefs within the company and since then The Seafood Restaurant has seen over 60 internal apprentices complete its 12 month Professional Cookery Apprenticeship. Rick says “Joining an Apprenticeship scheme in our industry means you will gain a wealth of experience and knowledge; there is no substitute for learning while working because you rapidly develop the skills needed and are therefore more likely to get a first-class job at the end of your programme”. Our apprentices have experienced some fantastic achievements, including taking part in filming for Sky television and also cooking for Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg. A number of past apprentices have also gone on to be promoted into senior positions both within the company and externally.
Due to the success of our internal apprenticeship scheme, in 2014 our Professional Cookery Apprenticeship will be available to external applicants for the first time.
